Crime and Corrections Reports

Cover of Crime in the United States 2024 The Library recently received the 18th edition of Crime in the United States. This title compiles data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the new edition contains final 2022 data from the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System. The data include comparisons of of offense types, hate crimes, and information about law enforcement personnel from across regions, states, counties, cities, tribal agencies, and university campuses. In 2022, there were a total of 349,283 violent crime arrests in the United States and of those arrests 61,909 occurred in the Midwest. To break that down even further, 5,464 violent crime arrests took place in Minnesota. Crime in the United States is the go-to resource for national crime data.

Additionally, the Minnesota Uniform Crime Report, including data collected in 2023, was added to the Library’s collection this month. There were 114,538 arrests for criminal offenses in 2023 compared to 112,581 arrests made in 2022. The Library has the Uniform Crime Report available online from 1934 to present.

Other crime and corrections reports added this month:

Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines and Commentary (effective August 1) determines presumptive sentences for any offender convicted of a felony.
Community Supervision Advisory Committee Report on Supervision Fees is a one-time mandated report to the legislature on imposed fees and the collection of correctional fees including supervised release fees.
Adult Prison Population Summary is a semi-annual report on prison population demographics, the type of offense, and individual facility population.
