The advisory council will: assist the commissioner of administration in development and updating of intergovernmental information systems master plan; recommend policies and procedures governing collections, security, and confidentiality of data; review and comment on applications for information systems and computer systems involving intergovernmental funding; liaison with local government; develop recommendations to commissioner of revenue concerning gathering and reporting of certain data collected from local units of government; and produce fiscal information and foster efficient use of resources.
The council was created by the Legislature in 1971, and was originally codified in Minn. Stat. 16.911. A few changes were made to the council over the course of the 1970s. In 1984, the Legislature recodified the council at Minn. Stat. 16B.42. Additional incremental changes were made in the 1980s and 1990s. The council expired on June 30, 2000.
When the council was originally created in 1971, statute did not specify council membership.
