    Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission

    Function:

    Supports amateur sports associations in Minnesota, and promotes amateur sports events. The Commission governs the nonprofit National Sports Center in Blaine, MN. The NSC is the largest amateur sports center in the world.

    History:

    The Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC) was created in 1987 by the Minnesota State Legislature to promote the economic and social benefits of sports.

    In 1994 slight changes were made to the composition of the 12 members of the Commission (please see Authority field for link to changes).

    Paul Erickson announced his retirement July 23, 2014. He was the first executive director of the Amateur Sports Commission and served for 27 years in the role. 
    Membership:

    As of 2011, the 12 voting members include four who should be experienced in promoting amateur sports. Nine of the voting members shall be appointed by the governor to three year terms. The governor, speaker of the house, and senate majority leader shall each appoint one voting member to a two year term; the purpose of these three appointments is to ensure gender balance in commission membership. Four legislators, two from each house appointed according to its rules, shall be nonvoting members. One member from each house shall be from the minority caucus.
