Board of Wrestling and Boxing

Function:

Licenses boxers, seconds, managers, franchise holders; makes rules governing sparring and boxing exhibitions.

History:

The Board's predecessors include the State Athletic Commission (1915-1973) and State Boxing Commission (1973-1975). The Athletic Commission's name was changed to the State Boxing Commission in 1973 and its membership expanded to seven (1973 Minn. Laws Chap. 638 Sec. 52). In 1975 it became the Board of Boxing (1975 Minn. Laws Chap. 271). For a two year period, 1983-1984, Minnesota had a Board of Wrestling and Boxing. 

The state's Boxing Board was recreated as the Minnesota Boxing Commission in 2006 (2006 Minn. Laws Chap. 282). It was officially renamed the Combative Sports Commission in the 2008 legislative session.

Seven members, appointed by the Governor, include 2 public member; members must file with EPB. Monthly meetings at Boxing Commission Office.
