State Boxing Commission

Active dates:1973-1975
Function: To regulate the sport of boxing.
Preceded by:
History: The Athletic Commission's name was changed to the State Boxing Commission in 1973 and its membership expanded to seven (Laws 1973 c638 s52). In 1975 it became the Board of Boxing (Laws 1975 c271).

The state's Boxing Board existed from 1975 to 2001 when it was allowed to expire. The Board was recreated as the Minnesota Boxing Commission in 2006 (2006 Minn. Laws Chap. 282). It was officially renamed the Combative Sports Commission in the 2008 legislative session. The new name reflects the commission's expanded oversight of mixed martial arts events that was added to the commission's purview in 2007 (2007 Minn. Laws Chap. 135 Art. 3 Sec. 30 Subd. 8).
Membership: Seven commissioners, citizens of this state, two of whom shall be pubic members as defined, who shall be appointed by the governor and hold office for a term of three years, except as hereinafter provided, and until their successors are appointed and have qualified.
