    Late Summer Reading

    Economists Steven D. Levitt and John R. Lott have spent the last few years taking jabs at one another. Levitt's 2005 popular economics book, Freakonomics, called into question John R. Lott's well-know hypothesis that right-to-carry laws reduce crime.

    Lott recently released Freedomnomics as a rebuttal to Levitt's book. (He also sued him for defamation.) Lott questions many of Levitt's analyses including his well-known hypothesis that the legalization of abortion in the 1970s reduced crime in the 1990s.

    These popular, thought-provoking books by outspoken economists examine the economics of everyday life from very different perspectives.
