Indian School Council

Active dates:1988-1989

To develop recommendations for Indian public schools, an urban Indian school district or districts, or other means of achieving Indian control of Indian education.

By December 1, 1988, the council shall report its recommendations to the state board of education and the education committees of the legislature.


The Indian School Council expired effective June 1989.


An Indian school council composed of 15 members is established. The state board of education shall appoint two of its members to serve on the council. The board of independent school district No. 625, St. Paul, and the board of special school district No. 1, Minneapolis, shall each appoint one of its members to serve on the council. The remaining members must be appointed by the governor, with the assistance of the Indian affairs council, as provided in section 3.922, subdivision 6, clause (6).
