In 1983 the Human Rights Advisory Committee was renamed a task force, its existence was made permissive, and language relating to qualifications of members was stricken. (1983 Minn. Laws Chap. 260 Sec. 60).
The task force was reinvigorated in 1986 when the Acting Commissioner of Human Rights, Jayne Khalifa, asked the task force to "provide a framework to fully examine and provide answers to some of the major questions and issues that have been raised after the recent change in the administration of the Department of Human Rights." The task force was to report to the commissioner in January 1987.
The Human Rights Advisory Task Force was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the task force.
