Information on Minnesota State Agencies, Boards, Task Forces, and Commissions
Compiled by the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library
LCC Geospatial Information Office
Function: The Legislative Coordinating Commission is the repository of statewide boundary information for the legislature. The office maintains a spatial data library provided by the Census Bureau and other Minnesota State agencies. This data can be integrated with many sources of information to produce maps and reports for legislators and legislative staff. Such information includes demographics, elections, natural resources and infrastructure to name a few.
The Office provides the Legislature with the means to do Redistricting once every 10 years in conjunction with the decennial Census. The Redistricting process uses many geospatial data sets which the office provides and assists in maintaining.
The Office also provides the Commissions Offices with Information Technology support and maintains the Legacy Amendment website.
History:
The Geospatial Information Office was originally set up for 1990 redistricting, and continues to support legislative cartographic needs.
