The advisory council advises the Board of Medical Practice regarding standards for licensed genetic counselors; provides for distribution of information regarding licensed genetic counselor practice standards; advises the board on enforcement of this chapter; reviews applications and recommends granting or denying licensure or license renewal; advises the board on issues related to receiving and investigating complaints, conducts hearings, and imposes disciplinary action in relation to complaints against licensed genetic counselors; and performs other duties authorized for advisory councils under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 214, as directed by the board. The advisory council shall be organized and administered as provided in Minnesota Statute, 15.059.
This advisory council was created in 2016. Notwithstanding Minnesota Statute 15.059, the advisory council does not expire.
The Board of Medical Practice shall appoint five members to this advisory council. One member must be a licensed physician with experience in genetics, three members must be licensed genetic counselors, and one member must be a public member.
