Also known as:
Minnesota Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners
Active dates:2005-2009
Function:

The Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners oversees the administration, enforcement, regulation, and adoption of rules regulating the barber and cosmetologist professions.

History:

The 2004 legislature moved the licensing responsibility for cosmetologists from the Commerce Department to the Barbers Examiners Board, and renamed the combined Board the Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners in 2004. The merger took effect in 2005.

The 2009 Legislature (Laws of Minnesota 2009, Chapter 78, Article 6, Section 9) split the Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners into two separate boards effective July 1, 2009. Cosmetologist members of the Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners are transferred to the new Board of Cosmetologist Examiners and will serve the remainder of their unexpired term on the new board.

Membership:

The board consists of seven members appointed by the Governor, including three barbers, three cosmetologists, and one public member.
