Task Force on Election Integrity
Active dates:May 26, 2011- January, 2013
Function: The task force shall study and recommend to the Legislature by January 15, 2013, proposals to modernize the State's elections, while protecting citizens' fundamental right to vote.
History:
On January 30, 2012, the Task Force released its "First Interim Report and Initial Recommendation" to Governor Dayton.
The Task Force has been studying the system used in North Dakota that prohibits felons from voting while they are incarcerated, but allows them to regain their voting rights when they are released from prison.
The Task Force issued its final report on January 15, 2013.
Membership:
The task force consists of 15 members, appointed as follows:
One member appointed by the Governor;
Two members of the Senate, one appointed by the Majority Leader and one appointed by the Minority Leader;
Two members of the House of Representatives, one appointed by the Speaker, and one appointed by the Minority Leader;
A member appointed by the Secretary of State;
A member appointed by the State Court Administrator;
A member appointed by the Commissioner of Corrections;
A county attorney appointed by the Minnesota County Attorneys Association;
Two local election officials appointed by the Association of Minnesota Counties;
Two local election officials appointed byt the League of Minnesota Cities; and
Two local election officials appointed by the Minnesota Association of Townhships.
