Minnesota Broadband Advisory Task Force

Function: Advise and assist the commissioner on progress in achieving state highspeed broadband goals and assist in annual report to legislature regarding same.

By January 1 of each year the task force shall issue a status report to the commissioner of commerce on the attainment of Minnesota broadband goals and recommendations for achieving those goals.
History: Governor Pawlenty created the High-Speed Broadband Task Force in 2008. The group met a number of times over the next year and a half, and released a report in October 2009, outlining their findings and policy recommendations to the legislature.

In 2010, the legislature passed legislation outlining goals to ensure every resident would have high speed internet access by 2015. Gov. Pawlenty then convened this group, the Minnesota Broadband Advisory Task Force, to track progress on those goals. The group was short-lived, as Governor Dayton took office in 2011. Minnesota Department of Commerce
Membership: A maximum of 15 members representing both Metro and Greater Minnesota with preference to demonstrated user expertise from the areas of health care, k-12 education , higher education, libraries, local government or private residential, or, from a provider's perspective representing telephone, cable, wireless, or union.
