Also known as:
State Board of Technical Colleges
Active dates:1990 - 1995
Function:

The state board shall possess all powers necessary and incident to the management, jurisdiction, and governance of post-secondary vocational education. These powers shall include, but are not limited to, those enumerated in Minn. Stat. 136C.04 (1994). The state board may adopt policies as necessary to perform its duties.

History:

In 1983 the legislature created the State Board of Vocational Technical Education. It was renamed the State Board of Technical Colleges in 1990.

The legislature merged the state university system, community colleges, and technical colleges on July 1, 1995. This merger created the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees, and eliminated the disparate boards (see Laws of Minnesota 1995, Chap. 212, Art. 4, Sec. 65).

Membership:

Eleven members (one from each congressional district, two at-large, one student member at-large). Members are appointed by governor and confirmed by the Senate for 4-year terms. Members file with Ethical Practices Board and are paid per diem and expenses.
