Dear Governor Walz:
After much reflection. and with sincere gratitude to the DFL Pany and the people or District
40B, I have made the difficult decision not to accept my scat in the Minnesota House or
Representatives and lo resign from the Office of State Representative effective immediately and
irrevocably.
It has been a privilege to serve Roseville and the surrounding communities on the Roseville
School Board for the past seven years, and I had hoped to continue to do so as the Representative
for District 408.
While I disagree with the conclusions reached by the District Court, I recognize that
whatever the decision on appeal, the ultimate decision belongs to the Legislature, where it appears
there is no viable pathway for me being allowed to retain my seat. Rather than dragging this out
further, I have decided to resign now, so that a special election can be held as soon as possible and
the people of 408 will be represented in the Legislature.
Although I will not be in the Legislature, I look forward Lo continuing to serve the
community that I love and working on the issues I am passionate about- such as fully funding our
public schools, protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community with a state and federal Equal
Rights Amendment, and addressing climate change. I hope to be able: to partner with you, your
administration, and the Legislature in this work.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Curtis Johnson
