He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1917.
He served as Secretary of the North Dakota State Socialist Party, 1913-1916. He was the General Secretary of the National Nonpartisan League, 1916 to 1923. He was elected to the United States Congress as a member of the Farmer-Labor Party. (Biographical Directory of the United States Congress)
He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the United States House of Representatives in 1938 and 1940.
He was buried in Hillside Cemetery.
