Toensing lists his birth year as 1840(?). The Onsala Parish birth records list 1839.

He came to Houston County, Minnesota Territory in August 1853 with his parents.

He died in Veedersburg, Fountain County, Indiana and was buried in Hixon Cemetery, Mecca Parke County, Indiana.
