GENERAL NOTES

Toensing entered two records with almost identical data; one listed his last name as McCrea, the other listed McRea. The Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1879 lists both McCrea and McRea. Biographical Sketches of the Officers of the State Government of Minnesota and the 19th Minnesota State Legislature by C.L. Hall, 1877 and the Minnesota Legislative Manuals, 1877 and 1878 list McCrea.

He came to Minnesota in 1854, settled in St. Paul. He later moved to Stearns County, Minnesota. He went to Sioux Falls in the Dakota Territory in the spring of 1859. He went to Colorado for two years to search for gold in 1859. He returned to Minnesota around 1861, then moved to Maine in 1865. He came back to Minnesota in the fall of 1870. He moved to Otter Tail County, Minnesota in the spring of 1871.
