Toensing, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, November 10, 1877; and the Minnesota Legislative Manuals, 1868, 1875, 1876, 1877, 1878, 1885-86, 1891, and 1893 list his last name as Lienau. The Minnesota Legislative Manuals, 1867 and 1872 list both Lienau and Lineau.

He came to Minnesota in 1854, 1855, 1857, or 1858.

He came to the United States in September 1854. He lived in New York, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1858. He moved to Carver County, Minnesota in 1869.
