GENERAL NOTES
He came to Minnesota in 1869.
A family member supplied the month and day of birth, the death date, birth place, family information, and high school graduation date. The family member wrote about Senator Johnson: "Charles emigrated in May 1869 with his father via Quebec, and after a brief stop in Chicago, they reached Lake Prairie Township in Nicollet County, Minnesota. The rest of the family arrived in 1871. After graduating from high school in 1880, he taught rural school in the west part of the county. In 1883, he was elected Clerk of Court for Nicollet County . . . and entered the retail business about the same time. He later served on the St. Peter school board and continued to run his general store."
