He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota around 1973. He moved to Maplewood, Minnesota in 1975.

He was named Veterinarian of the Year in 1969 and received the Distinguished Veterinarian Award in 1972 from the Minnesota Veterinary Medicine Association.

He died from lung cancer at home in Maplewood, Minnesota. His funeral was held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Minnesota.

He was a member and deacon of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Minnesota.
