GENERAL NOTES

He came to St. Anthony, Minnesota in 1850.

"He was a paper-hanger by trade, but afterwards kept a book store. During the War of the Rebellion he was employed in the Freedmen's Bureau in Mississippi. In his later life he was engaged in missionary work in North Carolina." (Holcombe. R.I. Minnesota in Three Centuries, Vol. 2)

His death was recorded in the U.S. Quaker Periodicals on September 11, 1902 on page 728.

He is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Asheville, North Carolina.

Session Notes: St. Anthony Falls changed from Ramsey County to Hennepin County on March 4, 1856. So Ramsey County is no longer listed as a county served for District 3. From 1849 to 1886, the term of office start date is uncertain. He was elected in a special election that was held on the same date as the general elections of 1856 to finish the term of John Rollins who resigned. He took the oath of office on January 7, 1857.
