He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Sons of Norway, and the Chippewa County Historical Society's Hall of Fame.
He died at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. His funeral was held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was buried in the church cemetery.
