Toensing lists his last name as Ackerman. The Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1885 lists both Ackerman and Ackermann. The Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1883 and Progressive Men of Minnesota, 1897 list Ackermann.
He came to a farm in Young America, Benton Township, Carver County, Minnesota in 1862.
