He ran unsuccessfully for the Republican party endorsement for Minnesota Lieutenant Governor in 1970. (Minneapolis Tribune, June 27, 1974.)

He died of cancer at home in northwest Rochester, Minnesota. His funeral was held at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester, Minnesota. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
