He moved to Ohio around 1854. He went to Richland County, Wisconsin in 1856. He came to Minnesota in the spring of 1872.
He was appointed as a Receiver to the United States Land Office, New Ulm, Minnesota around 1877 but declined it to serve in the Minnesota Legislature.
