"Lee, an elder in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor party, was raised a Republican but shed that formal party allegiance when Franklin Delano Roosevelt ran for president." "He voted for F.D.R. in 1932 and has been a Democrat ever since." (Fargo-Moorhead Forum, October 2, 1984)

He died from heart failure in Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley, Minnesota. His funeral was held at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota. He was buried in the Bagley City Cemetery in Minnesota.
