He came to the United States in 1854, with his parents. He lived in Fullerton, Illinois. He moved to Watertown, Carver County, Minnesota in the summer of 1857 or 1858. He worked in silver mining in Clancy, Montana for three years, and in Ketcham, Idaho for a year. Afterwards he returned to Watertown, Minnesota.
He ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota Senate.
He was a Freemason and a charter member of Watertown Lodge No. 50. He served as its Worshipful Master and Secretary.
