He ran unsuccessfully as a Conservative candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives in the 1972 election. His opponent, Russell P. Stanton, defeated him by 50 votes so a recount occurred. W. Casper Fischer stopped the recount before it was finished since he determined it wouldn't change the outcome.
