He moved to St. Anthony, Minnesota in 1848 and ran the government mill. He later moved to Stillwater, Minnesota wroked in the lumber and building industry. He came to St. Paul Minnesota in 1862. (Minnesota in Three Centuries)

Other sources say he came to Minnesota in 1853 or 1856. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1860.

Delano, Minnesota was named after him.
