According to an Adjutant General's report, he died January 7, 1865, of wounds received at
the Battle of Nashville.
His father was one-fourth Ottawa Indian. (The Life of Alexis Bailly, Minnesota Pioneer)
His mother, Lucy Faribault, "was the child of a French trader and a mixed-blood mother." (Gilman, Rhoda. Henry Hastings Sibley: Divided Heart. St. Paul: Minnesota Historical Society, 2004.)
