The Minnesota Constitutional Debates, 1857, the United States Census, 1857, the Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1872, and the Journal of the Senate 1857-58, list his last name as Bailly; Toensing lists Bailey.
According to an Adjutant General's report, he died January 7, 1865, of wounds received at
the Battle of Nashville.
