GENERAL NOTES

He was raised in Ohio. He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1835. He built the second house there and became the second permanent settler. He moved to Janesville, Wisconsin in 1838. He made the first settlement there. He came to Sauk Rapids, Minnesota in the winter of 1849. He was the first settler in Shakopee, Minnesota in 1851. He laid out and named Shakopee, Minnesota. He did the same thing for Chaska, Minnesota.

His party affiliation was taken from the History of Minnesota: from the French Explorations to the Present Time, 1873. In there it states that on October 20, 1849 the first Minnesota Democratic Party convention was held. He was listed as an attendee.

He died in Cullman, Alabama.
