United States Census data from 1880 states he was born around 1842. However, a relative says that in "History of Ira, VT." written in 1924 by Harrison J. Peck's brother, Simon L., he stated that it was actually 1838. A relative further stated "Speculation about the later date is that his wife's date of birth was 1852, and they didn't want to appear too far apart in age."
