                                    He moved to St. Croix Falls in 1841.  He later moved to Willow River (later named Hudson), Wisconsin.  He moved to Stillwater, Minnesota in 1843.  He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1848.  He moved to Shasta County, California in 1849.  Some time after May 1852 he returned to Minnesota.  He fought with the New York Regiment in the United States Civil War.  He returned to Minnesota a few days before he died.
Nobles County, Minnesota was named after him; Nobles Pass in the Sierra Nevada Range in the Rocky Mountains was also named after him.
He assisted with the creation of the first mill in St. Croix Falls.  (Minnesota in Three Centuries)
