He came to Minnesota in 1843.

"David B. Loomis, lumberman, educated at Western Reserve College, Ohio, came to Marine in 1843. In 1846 he was one of the builders of the Arcola mill and was living in Stillwater. During 1849 he represented Marine in Minnesota's first territorial legislature. In 1852 Loomis joined with Socrates Nelson to form a Stillwater sawmilling firm."
