He was of Norwegian ancestry.
He came to Lowell, Polk County, Minnesota in August 1878.
He ran unsuccessfully for Minnesota Lieutenant Governor in 1894.
He ran unsuccessfully on the Populist ticket and as the Democratic party endorsed candidate for the United States Congress in the 1896 election.
He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), and Modern Woodmen of America (M.W.A.).
His father, Anders O. Lommen, was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives.
