Toensing lists his city as Vernon Center. Since that is in Blue Earth County, it seems more likely he was from Vernon Township which is in Dodge County. The Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1879 lists his post office as Vernon.

His gravestone is in West Saint Olaf Cemetery in Vernon, Dodge County, Minnesota.
