"Dr. Setzepfandt received a number of recognitions and awards. In 1994 he received the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine prestigious Stange Award, which is the highest recognition given to ISU veterinary alumni. In 1978 he was elected to membership in the Kappa Chapter of the Society of Phi Beta Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine. In 1979 he was the honored recipient of the WCCO "Good Neighbor Award". Also, in 1979 Dr. Setzepfandt received the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association "Veterinarian of the Year" award "for outstanding service to his community and profession". On February 17, 2001, 18 years after leaving the Minnesota Senate and many years after retiring his veterinary practice, Dr. Setzepfandt received a "Distinguished Service Award" for his lifetime of dedication to the local agricultural community by the Renville County All Agricultural Association at their annual dinner.
