Advises the Minnesota commissioner of health on matters relating to registration and regulation of hearing aid dispensers including: registration standards, enforcement of registration rules, and continuing education.
Minnesota Rules in 1991 established and prescribed the duties of a hearing aid dispenser advisory council as part of Chapter 4745, Minnesota Department of Health Hearing Instrument Dispenser Registration. In 1995 the Minnesota Legislature codified Minn. Stat. 153A.20 describing the membership and duties of the Council. 2005 Minn. Laws Chap. 147, Sec. 18, Subd. 1 changed the membership of the Council from nine persons to seven persons. The Hearing Instrument Dispenser Advisory Council was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the council.
2023 Minn. Laws Chap. 70 Art. 3 Sec. 80 changed the name of the advisory council from the Minnesota Hearing Instrument Dispenser Advisory Council to the Hearing Aid Dispenser Advisory Council.
7 members (2 public members, 3 hearing aid dispensers, 1 audiologist or a physician specializing in treatment of diseases of the ear); appointed by commissioner of health; per diem and expenses.
