Advise the Minnesota commissioner of agriculture concerning the family farm security program; review applications for family farm security loans; recommend to the commissioner, legislature, and public any changes needed in state policy or programs to promote the economic health and viability of the family farm.

History:

Created 1976. In 1981 language relating to expiration of the council was stricken; in 1983, the expiration language was reinstated. Scheduled to expire 30 June 1993.

Membership:

7 members (2 officers of commercial lending institutions, 1 dairy farmer, 1 livestock farmer, 1 cash grain farmer, 1 officer from a farm credit association, and 1 agricultural economist); appointed by commissioner of agriculture; 4-year terms; compensation governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059.
