Function: Regulates and promotes aviation in Minnesota; inspects and licenses flight schools, airports, and commercial operations; represents the state in airline route cases before the federal Civil Aeronautics Board; operates statewide system of radio navigation aids; working with local law enforcement agencies, investigates accidents; registers pilots; collects registration tax on nonairline aircraft.
History:
Merged with the former department of highways, as well as portions of the Department of Public Service and the transportation-related functions of the State Planning Agency to form the Transportation Department (1976 Minn. Laws Chap. 166 Sec. 119).
