Launch Minnesota Advisory Board

The commissioner of DEED shall establish an advisory board to advise the executive director of Launch Minnesota regarding its activities, to make the recommendations described in this section, and to develop and initiate a strategic plan for transferring some activities of Launch Minnesota to a new or existing public-private partnership or nonprofit organization outside of state government.

History:

2021 Minn. Laws 1st Sp. Sess. Chap. 10 Art. 2 Sec. 8 Subd. 9 made a small change to the membership requirements of the advisory board and extended Section 8 governing Launch Minnesota and the advisory board to January 1, 2026.

Laws of Minnesota 2021, 1st Special Session, chapter 10, article 2, section 8 made some changes to the Launch Minnesota Advisory Board. 

In 2023, the Legislature codified Launch Minnesota and the Launch Minnesota Advisory Board (see Laws of Minn. 2023, chap. 53, art. 15, sec. 15).

Membership:

The advisory board shall consist of ten members and is governed by Minnesota Statutes, section 15.059. A minimum of seven members must be from the private sector representing business and at least two members but no more than three members must be from government and higher education. At least three of the members of the advisory board shall be from greater Minnesota. Appointees shall represent a range of interests, including entrepreneurs, large businesses, industry organizations, investors, and both public and private small business service providers.

The advisory board shall select a chair from its private sector members. The executive director of Launch Minnesota shall provide administrative support to the advisory board.

The commissioner of DEED, or a designee, shall serve as an ex-officio, nonvoting member of the advisory board.

As of 2021, the board must include at least three minority group members.
