Legislative Commission on Energy (1980-1987)

Active dates:1980-1987
Function:

The commission shall: make a continuing study of matters relating to energy supply and use in the state; identify the potential for enhanced economic growth and job creation from increased energy efficiency and the production and utilization of renewable energy systems; identify ways to assure the provision of necessary energy supplies to all Minnesotans. The commission should also coordinate resources and programs on energy conservation and review overall legislative policy concerning energy.

The commission shall develop legislative energy plans consistent with appropriate long term energy goals for Minnesota. The plans shall be reported to the legislature no later than February 15 of each year.

History:

In 1984 the responsibility for reviewing and commenting on the receipt and expenditure of money received by the state under federal law for energy programs was added to the Commission's duties. This added duty tasked the commission with assessing whether Minnesota's needs would continue to be met given reductions in federal funding, or whether increased expenditures would be needed.

The Commission was set to expire on July 1, 1987 per 1980 Minn. Laws Chap. 579 Sec. 34.
