Children's Advisory Team on the Environment

Also known as:
Governor's Children's Advisory Team on the Environment
Minnesota Earth Team
Active dates:1991-1992
Function:

Provide a forum for Minnesota children to communicate their perspectives and concerns about the environment.

The team will meet three times and present their findings to the governor in June of 1992.

History:

Governor Carlson announced his intentions to form the "Minnesota Earth Team" during his first week in office at an environmental breakfast in Duluth. "If there is one issue where our children are out in front of us, it's the issue of the environment," Carlson said. "In part, the Earth Team has been created so that elementary school kids have a forum to present their ideas. But another big part of the Earth Team will just be a good learning experience for these kids. Today's Earth Team members are tomorrow's lawmakers, CEOs, teachers and parents."

The Advisory Team is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Zoo.

Membership:

21 children appointed by the governor from each of the 6 natural resource regions of the state.
