Child Care and Development Advisory Council

Function:

Advises the Public Welfare (later Human Services) Department on child care issues and funding (including grants).

History:

Created in 1973. At that time limited to 25 members; duties to advise only concerning grants-in-aid to licensed child care facilities; commissioner of public welfare ordered to appoint the council. In 1976, existence of the group was left to discretion of commissioner of public welfare. The jurisdiction was expanded to include all child-care issues, and the maximum membership was increased to 35. In 1983 the group was renamed from council to task force.

Membership:

Not more than 35 members (one-third of whom to be parents who use child care services), appointed by commissioner of public welfare (human services); terms governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059; compensation governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059
