    Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Advisory Committee

    Function:

    The Committee's purpose is to provide informed comment and recommendations to the Commissioner for the development of the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program.

    The committee will serve for the length of time necessary for development and early implementation of the program, but not more than two years. The first meeting will be held in early June 2012.

    History:

    The Water Quality Certification Program is the product of a state-federal partnership that includes the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR), the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

    Membership:

    The committee will be convened and staffed by the MDA with membership from the following: two farmers or ranchers; two representatives of general farm organizations; three representatives of commodity or livestock organizations; one representative of agriculture-related business; one representative of crop consultants or advisors; two representatives of environmental organizations; two representatives of conservation organizations; and two representatives of local government units.
