Active dates:May, 2007 - November, 2008
Function: Develop principles for use of genetic information.
The 2005 Minnesota Legislature directed the Commissioner of Administration to issue a report assessing how genetic information currently is protected in state agencies and offer recommendations for legislative action. (2005 Minnesota Session Laws, chapter 163, section 187.) The report was issued on January 13, 2006.
Based on the report issued in 2006, the 2007 Minnesota Legislature directed the Commissioner of Administration to convene a work group to "develop principles for public policy on the use of genetic information" and to report its findings and any legislative recommendations by January 15, 2009. Work group members, along with staff from the Minnesota Department of Administration's Information Policy Analysis Division participated in regular meetings held from September 2007 through November 2008. The work group held its final meeting on November 18, 2008.
The 22 member work group has a wide variety of representatives from state and local government, advocacy groups, the judicial branch, the medical community, criminal justice agencies, and the public. See agency notebooks for a list of members.
