Advise State Library in planning, development, and evaluation of library programs for all persons of the State of Minnesota provided by those libraries participating in federally-funded programs under LSTA. Recommend criteria for state-funded library service programs and interlibrary cooperation.
The council is representative of all Congressional Districts and provides opportunities for communication with the library community and the residents served by the libraries. It is positioned to recommend appropriate policies and programs based on citizen input. In addition, the Council advises on the priorities of the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants. Councilors promote statewide activities and advocate for quality library services.
Members are to be representative of the citizens of Minnesota reflecting the diversity of needs of those served by public, academic, school, special, and institutional libraries, including people with disabilities, disadvantaged persons and communities of color.
