Advises the Racing Commission regarding breeding industry rules and distribution of thoroughbred breeder's fund awards and purse supplements.
The Racing Commission serves a varied customer base. Administering the Minnesota Breeders' Fund requires interaction with horse owners, breeders, and state-bred programs in other racing jurisdictions. - from the Racing Commission Agency Profile The advisory committee reviews and evaluates revenues to the Breeders' Fund that are available for Minnesota bred purse supplements and recommends expenditure of those moneys to the Racing Commission for approval. The Breeders' Fund Appropriations Advisory Committee was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the committee.
11 members as of 2013. Members serve without compensation; expenses are reimbursed. Members must be active in the breeding and/or racing of thoroughbred horses in Minnesota.
