Function:

Committed to reducing human and economic consequences of tobacco use in MN. Funds research and smoking cessation programs.

ClearWay MinnesotaSM supports local policy work throughout the state, partnering with organizations and coalitions whenever possible to move local tobacco control initiatives. They also fund four local policy grantees around the state that are nonprofit organizations or government agencies that work to improve health at the local level.

History:

In May 1998, the Minnesota Fourth District Court (Ramsey District Court) required the tobacco companies to pay $202 million from the total $6.1 billion tobacco settlement into a fund for tobacco control work. This was used to create ClearWay Minnesota, an independent nonprofit. ClearWay (formerly MPAAT) is funded with three percent of the state's tobacco settlement funds and operates under the ongoing jurisdiction of the Ramsey County District Court.

The Board's name change is reflected in 2013 Minn. Laws Chap. 142 Art. 3 Sec. 5.

Membership:

ClearWay MinnesotaSM has a 19-member Board of Directors comprising 11 at-large positions and eight appointed members
